Texas Toast French Dips is a delicious and easy-to-make sandwich featuring crispy garlic Texas Toast layered with tender deli roast beef and melted provolone cheese, served with a savory au jus dipping sauce. Perfect for a satisfying lunch or casual dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Toast

  • 1 box frozen garlic Texas Toast (8 slices)

Au Jus Sauce

  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups cold water

Sandwich Filling

  • 1 pound sliced deli roast beef
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • Dried parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a sheet tray with parchment paper to prepare for baking the toast.
  2. Bake Texas Toast: Place the frozen garlic Texas Toast on the prepared sheet tray and bake according to package instructions, approximately 8 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even toasting.
  3. Prepare Au Jus: While the toast is baking, prepare the au jus gravy by combining 1 packet of au jus gravy mix with 3 cups of cold water. Follow package instructions to cook it until ready.
  4. Heat Roast Beef: Once the au jus is prepared, warm the sliced deli roast beef by submerging it gently in the hot au jus to heat through without drying it out.
  5. Assemble Sandwich Base: On each piece of cooked Texas Toast, place a half slice of provolone cheese evenly to create a base layer of melted cheese.
  6. Add Roast Beef: Distribute the warmed roast beef slices evenly on top of the cheese-covered toast slices.
  7. Top with Cheese: Add the remaining half slices of provolone cheese on top of the roast beef to fully cover each sandwich.
  8. Melt Cheese: Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the provolone cheese is fully melted and slightly bubbly.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, optionally sprinkle with dried parsley for garnish, and serve immediately alongside the au jus sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Flipping the Texas Toast halfway through baking ensures even browning and crispiness.
  • Warming the roast beef in the au jus keeps it moist and flavorful.
  • Using provolone cheese gives a nice melt and complements the beef’s flavor.
  • Serve the au jus hot to enhance the dipping experience.
  • Optionally add caramelized onions or horseradish sauce for extra flavor.
