Ingredients

Scale

Puppy Chow Base

  • 6 cups Rice Chex Cereal
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Garnish

  • 1/2 cup dried strawberries (see drying instructions below)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dried Strawberries: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Thinly slice fresh strawberries and lay them evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for about 2 hours, flipping slices after the first hour and rotating the pan every 30 minutes to ensure even drying. The strawberries should be dry and no longer moist when done.
  2. Melt the Chocolate Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips, strawberry jam, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex cereal inside a large brown paper grocery bag or a large Ziploc bag. Seal the bag and shake gently to evenly coat all the cereal pieces with the chocolate mixture.
  4. Add Powdered Sugar: Sprinkle the powdered sugar over the chocolate-coated cereal inside the bag. Reseal and shake well to ensure every piece of cereal is generously coated with powdered sugar.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Transfer the puppy chow into a serving bowl and mix in the dried strawberries. Optionally, garnish with a few extra white chocolate chips for added texture and visual appeal. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Use a brown paper bag or Ziploc bag when coating cereal for easy mixing and cleanup.
  • Adjust the amount of powdered sugar to taste, adding more for a sweeter coating.
  • Store puppy chow in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Ensure the dried strawberries are fully dehydrated to prevent sogginess.
  • This recipe is perfect for gifting or bringing to parties as a festive snack.
