Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Dough and Assembly

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 8 pieces caramel candy
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook apple filling: Melt 1 tablespoon unsalted butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add peeled and finely chopped apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally and cook until apples are tender and bubbling, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  3. Prepare biscuit dough: Open the can of refrigerated biscuit dough and separate the biscuits. Slightly stretch each biscuit, then flatten them into an even, thin round using fingers, a rolling pin, or tortilla press, taking care not to tear the dough.
  4. Assemble pie bombs: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the apple filling onto the center of each biscuit round. Place one piece of caramel candy on top of the filling. Carefully pinch the edges of the dough together to fully encase the filling, forming a tight seal. Gently roll each into a ball shape.
  5. Prepare for baking: Arrange each filled dough ball seam side down in the greased baking dish. Brush the tops with melted butter to promote browning. Optionally, sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the tops for extra flavor and aroma.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the dough balls are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve: Remove from oven and transfer carefully to a serving platter. Serve warm, optionally accompanied by caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for balanced sweetness and texture.
  • Ensure the dough is well sealed to prevent caramel or apple filling from leaking during baking.
  • For easier shaping, chill the apple filling slightly before assembling.
  • Optional cinnamon sugar on top adds a lovely crunch and extra sweetness.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated gently in the oven.
