Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 40 saltine crackers (enough to cover a baking sheet)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, then arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet without overlapping.
  2. Melt butter and sugar: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add 1 cup of granulated sugar and stir continuously, cooking until the mixture is combined and starts to bubble, forming a smooth toffee sauce.
  3. Pour toffee over crackers: Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the layer of saltine crackers, making sure all crackers are coated.
  4. Bake the crackers with toffee: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly and caramelized.
  5. Mix cinnamon sugar and sprinkle: While the toffee is baking, combine the remaining 1/4 cup sugar with 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon in a small bowl. As soon as you remove the tray from the oven, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly over the hot toffee-coated crackers.
  6. Cool and set: Allow the toffee-covered crackers to cool completely on the baking sheet at room temperature until the toffee hardens, about 30-45 minutes. Once set, break into pieces and enjoy your Churro Saltine Toffee.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
  • Be careful when pouring hot toffee, as it can cause burns.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep crispy for up to a week.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the cinnamon sugar topping before it sets.
