Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Rolls

  • 4 boneless and skinless chicken breasts
  • 8 deli-style turkey slices
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound with a meat mallet until about 1/2 inch thick for even cooking and easy rolling.
  3. Assemble Rolls: Lay two slices of turkey and one slice of Swiss cheese on each flattened chicken breast, then roll tightly and secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine to hold the filling inside during cooking.
  4. Set Up Breading Station: Arrange three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder for an even coating process.
  5. Bread the Rolls: Coat each chicken roll first in flour, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture to achieve a crispy exterior.
  6. Brown the Rolls: Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the chicken rolls for 4-5 minutes on each side until they attain a golden brown color, enhancing flavor and texture.
  7. Bake: Transfer the browned chicken rolls to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C), ensuring they are cooked through.
  8. Prepare Swiss Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, whisk in 2 tablespoons flour until smooth, then gradually add 1 cup milk while stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Add 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese and stir until melted and creamy.
  9. Serve: Remove toothpicks or twine from chicken rolls and plate. Drizzle generously with the creamy Swiss cheese sauce and serve immediately for the best taste.

Notes

  • Ensure chicken breasts are pounded evenly to avoid uneven cooking.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for a lighter, crispier crust.
  • Check internal temperature with a meat thermometer to guarantee food safety.
  • Swiss cheese can be substituted with Gruyere for a different flavor profile.
  • For a lower-fat version, use reduced-fat cheese and skip the butter in the sauce, using a non-stick spray instead.
