Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 French bread loaf (16 oz)
  • 8 oz thinly sliced flank steak
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers (mixed colors)
  • 1 cup sliced sweet onions

Other Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the stuffed loaf to a delicious golden brown.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking them until they become soft, which takes about 5 to 7 minutes. This step enhances their sweetness and flavor.
  3. Cook the steak: Push the sautéed veggies to the side of the skillet, season the sliced flank steak with salt and pepper, and add it to the skillet. Cook the steak until browned, approximately 3 to 5 minutes, locking in its savory taste.
  4. Prepare the bread: Carefully slice the French bread loaf lengthwise and scoop out some of the soft bread from the center, creating space for the filling.
  5. Assemble the filling: Mix the cooked steak and vegetables together with shredded provolone cheese. Spoon this delicious mixture generously into each half of the hollowed-out bread loaf.
  6. Bake the stuffed loaf: Place the stuffed bread halves on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake them in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown and crispy on the edges.

Notes

  • You can use provolone slices instead of shredded cheese for a different texture.
  • Substitute flank steak with ribeye or sirloin for a richer flavor.
  • For extra garlic flavor, brush the bread inside with olive oil and minced garlic before stuffing.
  • This sandwich is best served hot and fresh from the oven.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
